Update

  • Recent Sci-Tech conference where regional fairs from Ontario came to Toronto to discuss
  • Calgary focus group - people went through every single page and talked about what needs to be changed
  • The guide is very successful so far, BASEF mentioned that they use Stepping Up as a major resource for science fair presentations

Goals of Toronto Focus Group

  • At the Toronto focus navigation issues group, one team will just be working on fixing these and deciding on how the guide will look like
  • Develop English presentations
  • Work on navigation and divide into separate groups to work on navigation, podcasts, and presentation

Presentations

  • Topics for presentations will be chosen at the focus group
  • English presentations will be developed at Toronto focus groups
  • French presentations at Montreal focus group
  • Will also develop presenter notes so people can basically use presentation and notes to deliver the presentation
  • Expected to finish 2 presentations by end of Toronto session

Podcasts

  • 5-10 podcasts where alumni discuss certain topics
  • at the focus groups, there will be time to rehearse prior to actually taping them
  • not necessarily scripted out, keep exciting and make into discussion
  • hoping to finish 3 podcasts by the end of Toronto work session

Webcasts

  • Discussed at Calgary, will also discuss in Toronto and Montreal
  • Pre-Canada Wide web cast
  • The basic idea is that there will be brief videos to get people excited about Canada Wide and ISEF, have an alumni panel, Stepping Up presentation, going through a run through of what to expect at the Canada Wide Science Fair
  • Filming will be done in Toronto, some travel allowances to get some people down to Toronto for the filming
  • On the web cast screen, there will be an IM system for interactive questions so they can ask alumni questions right there
  • Hoping for a studio audience, hoping to host in the CBC or Discovery Channel studios – nothing set in stone

Guide Improvement

  • One of our goals is to improve the guide
  • Mubdi will be compiling the list of suggested areas to edit sent in by people and sending after Montreal so anyone can work on it online
  • Anecdote additions to each section as a possibility as a “moral of the story” thing to lighten up the mood in the guide
  • Think about possible promotional material to give out at fairs . . . pens?

Random? (SRY! I couldn’t help it! :P)

  • Mubdi likes salsa and is an “idiot” (his words, not mine)
  • Mascot – Mubdi salsa dance bobblehead? Tahbit?
