Pin trading is big at Science Fairs
Pin trading is big at Science Fairs
  • Bring lots of pins to trade with students from across the World and Canada. Sometimes, there are even a few students from countries like Taiwan and Australia who have come to visit the fair. Some students even bring other tradable items like backpacks, keychains, pencils etc. Keep your eyes open on Canada Day to find some neat things to trade.
  • Backup your project. Bring multiple copies of your project report with you. Save a copy to disk, upload it to your email account, save a working copy of all pertinent files and documents on a USB flash drive, and if possible bring some hardcopies just in case. It's always good to be prepared.
  • Remember to have fun. The science fair is not all about winning. Make sure you attend the socials and activities planned for you so you can make it the most memorable experience for yourself. Really. Make the most of it! That's an order!
  • Go to sleep early before judging. However, we know how it's actually going to go down (in that case, we recommend coffee in the morning). But, please do yourself a favour by getting well rested.
  • If you are going to IISEF, do not put Acknowledgments on your display board. You will be asked to cover them with construction paper by the inspection officers.
  • Pack light! Especially for IISEF, since you are not given the option to get boards at the fair, it is important to pack light. You will have to lug your belongings around with you so try your best to keep it easy.
  • Print your project on time. If you are planning on getting your project panels printed, make sure you get it done at least a few days in advance. If possible, print a mini-trial version before to make sure your text is big enough, background is not overpowering etc.
